well ... maybe it's not about drawing a line in the sand, it's
just the sense that you're not quite wanted in your own country
....
I got pretty decent grads during my studies in Canada that I got
into an honours society, but then I realized that I was not
eligible for 90% of the scholarships they offer ... cos I'm not
Canadian ....
in Singapore, it's the other way around ... I feel like a whiner
right now saying this, but what's the difference between a
foreigner and a singaporean in singapore ? ...
they get the same CPF, the same scholarships (yeah, a PR can get
top scholarships too !) ... the same benefits ... our tax payer
dollars are subsidizing the foreigners to come to study, and later,
those same foreigners are competing against us for jobs .... a
masters grad from burma or india can live and save on 1600 a month,
we can't ... and so wages get depressed ...
we get the same too ... just that we have to wear green and defend
this piece of land for 2 years, and for 2 weeks each year till
we're 45, ... this is not our holiday resort, or our sweatshop
where we'll work hard and return home to retire rich ... this is
our home .... heck ! .. we don't even get to vote most of the time
...
